That said, what are we going to do about the economy, unemployment rates, US deficit? These are questions the public sector will likely spend the next for years debating. But in the interim, what can local businesses do on their own to support their struggling industries, employees and customers?
One of the topics of much debate prior to the election was the status of manufacturing in the United States. This topic is of particular interest to me because as I have mentioned in previous blogs, I am new to manufacturing. Since joining this industry I’ve had many revelations about what it means to work in manufacturing.
Initially I had a perception of manufacturing that other Americans may share. I perceived manufacturing as gritty and sweaty manual labor employing semi-skilled or unskilled workers. I described in my previous blog, “New School Manufacturing”, I didn’t visualize manufacturing as a cutting edge, technologically advanced, highly skilled industry. My perception was completely off the mark!
I now experience every day the exciting, creative and innovative work performed in a manufacturing setting. I work with smart, cool people who literally make things work. It is my job as the face of Fusion OEM Human Resources to inform others of the re-invented world of manufacturing. I have a big job on my hands. Thankfully I am not alone in my endeavor to share the new world of manufacturing. Manufacturingstories.com is a social media company promoting manufacturing in the US to families, educators and community leaders. Their mission is to be a cheerleader of sorts for manufacturing and all of the richness of innovation, social fabric and prosperity it offers America.
In my opinion education is the key. Sharing the advantages of manufacturing with educators and parents can lead to conversations about pursuing manufacturing as career. Adults and kids interested and skilled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are perfect candidates for careers in manufacturing.
While there are many exciting programs revitalizing and modernizing manufacturing nationwide, I will do my part to share with you the realities of manufacturing at Fusion OEM. We are a cool and exciting young Company growing leaps and bounds despite the state of the economy. We offer amazing opportunities for smart, passionate, innovative people. We work hard and have fun. Fusion OEM is the model of what future manufacturing will become. We are ahead of the game!
