Local Contract Manufacturer Awarded Top Honors For Employee Engagement, Success

Fusion OEM recognized as one of Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For The employees at Fusion OEM couldn’t be happier – but don’t just take business owner Craig Zoberis’ word for it: Fusion OEM has just been recognized as one of Chicago’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For by the National Association for Business Resources (NABR), their second year in a row to receive the award after being selected out of hundreds of nominations.

“The selection, recognition and awarding of this year’s companies allows our organization to showcase their best practices. The honorees have clearly demonstrated why each of them would be an ideal place for employees to work,” said Jennifer Kluge, NABR president.

Zoberis feels winning this award doesn’t just mean lower turnover and happier employees – he’s confident that this engaged workforce means bottom-line benefits for Fusion OEM’s private label manufacturing customers.

“Satisfied and fulfilled employees deliver better long-term quality to our clients,” said Zoberis. “Employee engagement is one of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that we evaluate regularly so that we can deliver more value to our customers.”

To determine the award winners, an independent research firm evaluated each company’s entry based on key measures in various categories, including compensation, benefits, retention, professional development, recruitment, recognition, diversity and work-life balance.

“We have always recruited and developed an engaged workforce at Fusion OEM,” said Zoberis, “and this award for Best and Brightest Companies to Work For validates what our staff members have already known all along. Our customers notice too.”

This national competition identifies and honors organizations across the country and within the region that display a commitment to excellence in their human resource practices and employee enrichment programs.  Organizations are nominated and assessed based on their communication, work-life balance, employee education, diversity, recognition and retention practices.

In response to Fusion winning this prestigious award, Human Resource Rock Star, Stacy Hayes, replied “Receiving this award and recognition is motivating because it validates, on a regional and national level, what Fusion employees already know; Fusion is the best place to work!”

Prioritizing the culture within Fusion through emphasis on factors leading to increased employee engagement distinguishes Fusion as an industry leader.  “Due to a variety of factors, the evolving manufacturing industry has not recently been a front runner in the realm of employee satisfaction” explains Hayes.  Massive lay-offs and staffing cuts have taken a toll on employee morale within the industry of manufacturing.  Fusion’s determination to focus on the employee and take innovative action in the workplace has resulted in increased employee engagement, retention, productivity and customer satisfaction.

Hayes points out that Fusion’s all-employee morning huddles, daily recognitions, wellness programs, and fun family-focused events have been instrumental in building a cohesive team and creating an incredibly positive work environment.  The positivity comes from the fact that Fusion employees are smart, creative and hard working.  They share a mutual respect for each other and celebrate personal and professional successes.  Fusion has created and sustained an environment in which employees are happy to come to work with a can-do attitude and work professionally and productively together to achieve and exceed our goals.

Fusion is the best place to work!

For some, a garage is a place to store your car. For others, it is a place to store unused exercise equipment. But for Craig Zoberis, the garage is the place he started his successful Burr Ridge business, Fusion OEM.

Fusion OEM is an equipment manufacturing company specializing in private labeling products for industrial automation. It manufactures products for the printing, packaging, medical and food-service industries. Fusion has also developed custom machines for clients ranging from the automotive to the electronics industries.

In 2002, Zoberis manufactured his first product, the Sheet Feeder, for a distributor of Swiss manufactured cutting systems. Today, Fusion has 42 employees and two buildings for the machining and assembly of its products.

In 2009, Fusion was awarded a spot on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing companies in America. Today Fusion OEM has more than 25 customers and manufactures over 100 products that include everything from simple assemblies of machined parts to complex electromechanical industrial machinery and electrical control panels. Annual revenue has grown from $155,000 in 2002 to almost $7 million in 2011.

The Annual Awards for Business Excellence highlight successful suburban businesses and organizations and honor the people who make them successful. The AABE’s, given for business achievement, growth, and community involvement, are presented to outstanding businesses with a significant presence in the suburban circulation area of the Daily Herald Business Ledger. Businesses are nominated by individuals, businesses, or organizations and must then submit portfolios of supporting materials for judging. Honorees are recognized at an evening reception hosted by the daily herald business ledger.

Fusion Systems has been named one of the 500 fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S. by Inc. as announced in their annual Inc. 500|5000 issue (available at newsstands and in-home September 2009 and online at Inc. magazine, a national publication, is the only major business magazine edited exclusively for entrepreneurs, business leaders, and CEOs of fast-growing private companies.  Inc. ranks #1 for top management and business purchase decision-makers among all titles measured by MRI.  The Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth over four calendar years; specifically, 2005-2008 for the 2009 list. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, independent -- not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies, and revenue in 2005 must have been at least $200,000, with at least $2 million in revenue in 2008.

Over a four year period, Fusion's annual revenue has increased by 691%, making Fusion an ideal candidate for inclusion on this much-anticipated and highly competitive list. Fusion has been named the #1 fastest growing manufacturer in the state of Illinois and is one of only 15 manufacturing companies nationwide to make the list this year. Overall, Fusion ranks at #363 out of 500.

"We are honored to be acknowledged as one of the fastest growing privately-held companies in the U.S.," says Craig Zoberis, President, Fusion Systems.  "It is extremely rewarding to be recognized in this way, and we are proud to share this great accomplishment with our employees, suppliers, and clients, all of whom greatly contributed to our growth and success."
